TED talks - Hans Rosling on HIV: New facts and stunning data visuals

Hans Rosling shares some great data representations and argues that prevention - not drug treatments - is the way to end this epidemic.

I’m sure Big Pharma and the Pope don’t want you to know that so we’ll just let academia keep that secret to themselves. Argh.

Like I said, I dance with the married ladies at weddings - especially the bride!  Yow!
And after all these years, I can still pull off my move!

Shocking Blue - Love Buzz

Love Buzz on Wikipedia

Just goes to show that I don’t do my homework.  I never knew this was a cover, and it’s one of my favorite tunes by Nirvana.

He knows me so well

  • Jesse: your IP uses Pascal
  • Jared: your programming jokes are deprecated
  • Jesse: how was that DOS convention you just got back from?
  • Jared: it's about time you brought your jokes into the 90s
  • Jared: ya know, keep things fresh
  • Jesse: oh what, tired of my ASCII bit?
  • Jared: just trying to help you out in case you find that nerd girl of your dreams
  • Jesse: dude, the nerd girl of my dreams is somewhere deep in the anthropology dept. locker checking out the bones of a prehistoric erection
  • Jesse: the nerd girl of your dreams is locked somewhere in bits of silicon, never to be released from her electronic prison...

Being a popular user of a “new media” site, or being a “new media” celebrity, doesn’t make you a geek.

Marco on real geekdom

Agreed - I can’t explain how much this frustrates me.

Quit trying to be popular on the web. Go make something.

Viva Voce / The Slow Fade

this one is…

Beautiful.  I love these two individuals.  Any woman who wail on the guitar like Anita is OK in my book.

So many memories come to mind…
Like when I was a freshman in high school and I bowled in two different leagues on Saturday mornings.  The first was for kids in my age group.  The second was for the older bunch and I was on a team with some of the ‘cool’ seniors - Matt B (RIP), Mitch A, Brad C and Jim K.  They’d all drag themselves in at 1:00, hungover, and I’d be all “Hey fellas! I bowled really well earlier so you’re in for a treat, whee!”
OK that’s not completely true, but it’s not too far off because I definitely was trying to be cool at a time when I certainly wasn’t.  I can’t even remember how I became a member of that team.  Most likely because they knew I was good and they knew my brother Adam.
That was a strange year for me. I did a lot of math homework for other people essentially so they would actually talk to me.  In the long run, it worked.
Bowling and math.  I’ve got all the right skills :)
