“A nasal spray which increases our trust for strangers is showing promise as a treatment for social phobia, say scientists from Zurich University.”
THIS IS AN OBVIOUSLY BAD IDEA. I REPEAT: THIS IS AN OBVIOUSLY BAD IDEA.
I couldn’t agree more. Bad idea.
This is another shortcut to bypass what I believe the brain needs in order to overcome phobias - therapy and experience, thus learning. Granted, drugs are helpful in aiding the process (I speak from experience) but I think it’s counterproductive to use them in place of a learning process.
In this case, how shocking would it be if a person with severe social phobia were to take this drug and almost instantly trust in others and become sociable? Without proper skills, how would this person know how to react?
