On August 15th, 2008 we will begin phasing out support for Internet Explorer 6 across all 37signals products. In order to continue using the products without any hiccups, Internet Explorer 6 users should upgrade to a newer browser
This should make my web design life much easier. IE6 is a constant bear on web designers/developers and as more big-name sites (Apple’s me.com being another) begin to drop support for IE6, the rest are soon to follow.
It’s so painful to see a client open IE6 in a meeting/web conference. It immediately sparks the “Oh Shit” reflex in my brain.
I’d say at least 15-20% of my time spent on any project is wasted on IE6 compatibility - and incessantly cursing. How are we expected to move forward when we have one foot stuck in the muck of IE6? That said, I’m glad to hear this announcement from 37Signals and I hope to hear more of the same real soon.
Dear everyone else, get with the times!
