After the recent incidents on our streets (this one in particular) I’m a little more tense/aware when I ride to and from work. When I hear stories about drivers being aggressive towards bikers and vice-versa I get a little nervous and worked up about the bike vs. car issue. That’s when I need to remind myself that I’m actually treated very well on the streets as I ride and I do my best to return the favor while driving. Share the Road :)
Twice in the last month, a car has taken a right turn over a bike lane without signaling and while I was in said bike lane one car-length back. Both times I was forced to stop abruptly, ready to scream or at least flip the bird. However, I held back and just pedaled harder to work out that frustration. It’s just a driver, people make mistakes. I can only hope that the driver saw me and will be more aware next time. I’m lucky so far.
It’s like what Portland Police Officer Pickett says in the article, “Apologies are beautiful.”
